Xiaomi’s Mi Mix series is one of the earliest flag bearers of the edge-to-edge screen age. However, it’s always been criticized for putting the selfie camera in an awkward position for achieving a truly bezel-less front. Xiaomi’s new Mi Mix 3, which went official today, overcomes that predicament with a — you guessed it — mechanical slider.
Yes, like the Oppo Find X and Vivo Nex, the Mi Mix 3 comes with a sliding camera system at the top which houses several sensors including two front-facing cameras — a regular 24-megapixel snapper and another 2-megapixel lens for depth-sensing. Similar to Oppo’s Find X, the mechanical system covers the entire cross-section and appears out of the phone whenever there’s a demand for it such as in the camera application. The rest of the Mi Mix 3, however, follows a familiar equation found on its predecessors.
It comes with a 6.39-inch OLED, 1080p screen which is nearly bezel-free except for a narrow chin. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9 so you will have issues with content playback on apps like YouTube.
