The official YouTube app from Google is now making its way to the Amazon Fire TV Sticks, and similarly, Google’s Chromecast devices will now be able to stream content directly from Amazon Prime through the official app, both of which weren’t possible till date. This brings in more options and a wider selection of content to stream for users who have either of these devices.
“We are excited to work with Amazon to launch the official YouTube apps on Fire TV devices worldwide,” said Heather Rivera, Global Head of Product Partnerships at YouTube. “Bringing our flagship YouTube experience to Amazon Fire TV gives our users even more ways to watch the videos and creators they love.” YouTube is one of the most popular video streaming platforms and adding official support to the Fire TV Stick completes the watching experience as YouTube is home to a ton of music, kids’ shows and exclusive content.
Similarly, Chromecast, Google’s streaming device along with Android TVs which have built-in Chromecast are receiving official support for Amazon Prime Video which lets users consume exclusive TV shows or movies that are not available on YouTube. “We’re excited to bring the Prime Video app to Chromecast and Android TV devices, and to give our customers convenient access to the shows and movies they love,” said Andrew Bennett, Head of Worldwide Business Development for Prime Video. However, Chromecast users need to have a subscription for Amazon Prime in order to access the content.
While there’s no official date for the roll out, the support will be rolled out on both platforms in the coming few months, after which users will be able to stream content from the entire suite of YouTube apps and Amazon Prime Video in a resolution of up to 4K HDR at 60fps on supported devices. If you were holding out on getting any of these devices due to the lack of support for both streaming services, you can pick either one up now and enjoy your favorite videos and shows on the official apps.
